Founded in 1986 and based in Montpellier, France, the SEMCO Group is one of the most advanced engineering companies specialized in the development and manufacture of photovoltaic and semi-conductor capital equipment backed by disruptive technology:
- Process technology solutions, covering applications from production PV to flexible consumer electronics.
- Photovoltaic and Semicon equipment, with specialities in reduced-pressure diffusion, direct-PECVD and automation.
- Turnkey PV manufacturing plants, from UMG Silicon metallurgy to solar modules.
- Next-generation high-efficiency solar cell technologies.
The SEMCO Group’s primary mission is to deliver leading-edge industrial and technological solutions to the renewable energy industry. We are committed to deliver innovative and cost-effective products and services on time that meet our customer requirements through continual improvement of quality and work practices.
The SEMCO Group’s vision is to ease and increase access of developed and emerging countries to solar electricity — widely distributed, truly renewable and free from geopolitical implications — so that it becomes a clear and sound source of energy.
The market and the way to reach a balanced energy mix
The global market for PV systems is now strongly expanding but large-scale use of solar energy will require a dramatic reduction in the cost-to-efficiency ratio. Constant innovation is needed to satisfy the requirements of scale up, cost and reliability. Novel manufacturing processes promise to enhance performance while lowering costs. More dramatic advances may come from developing disruptive technologies based on new device architecture or innovative materials. The intermittency of power production requires that large-scale energy storage and grid management be developed if solar is to become a large contributor to overall carbon-neutral energy supplies. Further, shift from fossils to renewables and rise of a healthy, competitive and fair marketplace needs appropriate regulatory and policy support structures for solar energy development.
A specialized profession
Specialists from the start in designing, manufacturing and commercializing diffusion & PECVD equipment, related processes and automation solutions, SEMCO Group’s know-how is based on our experience with hundreds of machines installed and running worldwide corresponding to an effective annual manufacturing capacity of about 5 GWp.
A range of suitable products with process applications in mind
With a range of products designed to meet current and future processing requirements, we have strengthened our position in various high-performance PV technology sectors, such as n-type bifacial PERT and PERC. Furthermore, the SEMCO Group, through its SFE division, has developed a strategy aimed at niche markets such as flexible electronics and thin films photovoltaics.
The SEMCO Group provides quality capital equipment and automation solutions to leading-edge technology markets with a specific focus on photovoltaics, a strong driver of global economic development which spawn, against all odds, new activities, innovation and jobs every year.
The SEMCO Group is a private limited company with Supervisory Board incorporated under the French law. All shares are held by the employees and private investors. Company’s overall objective is to remain a key player in the PV capital equipment field and create long-term value for its customers and investors. This requires effective corporate governance with an appropriate organizational structure, systems for internal control and risk management, and a clear business vision in this joint effort toward a balanced, performing and sustainable global energy mix.
Acting in the interests of the SEMCO Group and taking into account the relevant interest of the SEMCO Group’s shareholders, the Supervisory Board supervises and advises the Board of Management in performing its management tasks and setting the general direction of the Group’s business (e.g. achievement of the company’s objectives, corporate strategy, financial reporting process, etc.). The SEMCO Group's Supervisory Board is a separate and independent body from the Board of Management and currently comprises seven members elected by the shareholders at their General Meeting.

The SEMCO Group is a matrix organization with business units operating in three segments, reporting separately and having their own engineering/fabrication resources while being supported by corporate services such as sales or finance. The SEMCO Group's segments are clearly differentiated by the products and services they offer to the market and by the customers they serve :
1. PVE (Photovoltaic Equipment) is devoted to the development and commercialization of production-orientated PV tools.
2. IRYSOLAR is the SEMCO Group's Fabrication Laboratory for research and innovation in PV technology.
3. SFE (Solutions for Equipment) is in charge of managing the strategic components (e.g. e-chucks) and R&D tools.
This decentralized approach provides a flexibility and capacity for adaptation that greatly facilitate reactivity into the business ecosystem.
The SEMCO Group is an international group consisting of companies and service centers based in the largest industrialized countries, which allow us to offer the same performance level to local academic institutions that we offer to the largest multinational PV manufacturers.
